5 things I realized going out for the first time after 2 years

The last time I went out was in 2022 at this club in Hong Kong. Yesterday I finally did it again. This time with some old friends in Vietnam.

Here are some of my quick realizations:

1. I can see why I used to like it — A LOT

I mean … it’s fun — the drinks, the high, the people. Some are great, and some are assholes — but it’s fun to watch.

2. Waking up, I remember why I don’t do it anymore

My head is aching. My body is hurting. It felt as if I dug myself out of a grave after being murdered.

3. When you feel like you need a puff, just don’t

It’s going to feel like committing a crime against yourself, especially if you have quit for a long time.

4. Don’t worry about what people might think

That you’re antisocial if you choose to stay home, or that you’re an immature fck if you go. Our brain makes us fear that sometimes.

I didn’t go out for the last few years: I stayed home, chilled, watched movie or just grab a drink with a friend before 11.

Somehow, people at home thought I was partying every weekend. I guess sometimes they reinforce whatever you showed years ago already.

Moral of the story is: No one cares, so you shouldn’t. Do whatever that makes you happy.

5. Keep your phones and keys with you.

This is a practical tip. I’m now at that age where I cannot handle the idea of not being able to go straight to my own bed at night.

Losing my keys and wallets mean exactly that. Just wear everything in front of your chest. It’ll save you some time and some panic amid the fun.

Did I regret it? No, I had fun. I’ve missed my friends.

Will I do it again? Hmm, maybe if it’s a bi-annual thing. A minimum of 6-month rest in between would be ideal — thank you!
