7 best years of my life, summarized:
1. Consistency is key
Never have I ever worked that hard. For 7 years. I might have slacked off since university but I know exactly what to do once the time calls for discipline and hard work again.
2. Some friends are for life
Never have I ever had that much fun and done that much dumb shit. I saw them running for their life from a mouse. They saw me with my bangs and still love me. It cannot get deeper than that.
Just kidding. You know how a lot of our f*cked-up-ness comes from childhood? We saw each and every of our pain, from 12 to 25. No one else can truly understand that.
3. Some are for seasons
Some friends are for fangirling over K-pop boy bands. Some are there for company at times it was hard to fit in. Some are for hobbies and fun times together. Some people might not stay, but they do bring us growth and the ability to identify red flags later in life.
4. The world is never going to be fair
School is a miniature society. The majority is problematic people, which might include even your teachers. Teachers have favorites. Everyone is jealous and insecure. Access to education is the same as access to the job market:
It depends on whom your parents know and how much they can pay to get you the necessary skills and resources.
5. Being good at school doesn’t mean anything
Good news is where you get to doesn’t mean much: Ivy League, national competitions, president of student committees. Nobody gives a shit. If you’re an asshole, people can tell from miles away.
And if not, they still won’t know you are smart if you do not go out and socialize. I know some of y’all just don’t.
6. I’m sorry. I know I said 5 but I have to add: Everyone is f*cking weird
Some people were just straight-up perverts and bullies. Some didn’t know the concept of personal hygiene. Some were conceited. Some people were insecure (myself included). Some people have questionable parents. I was weird — sure. But I knew I was not the only one. And that’s comforting.
